Creating and Sharing a MeSA Scenario

A theoretical scenario is a MeSA Report used to see how a new medication would interact with already prescribed medications and observed behaviors.

Run a MeSA Scenario

  1. Navigate to the MeSA Report page. There are two ways to do this:
    • The easiest way
      1. Click the "Run MeSA Report" link in the "Quick Tasks" module.
      2. Select a patient/resident.
      3. Click the "New Entry" button.
    • The other way
      1. Click on the "Patients/Residents" tab.
      2. Select a patient/resident.
      3. Click on the "MeSA Report" tab.
      4. Click the "New Entry" button.
  2. Click the "Scenario" button.
  3. Enter a report name if needed, and click the step "3" tab to continue.
  4. Complete step three. Click the step "4" tab to continue.
    • Add a new scenario medication if needed.
      1. Type the name of the medication into the search field. Select the medication from the list, and click the "Add" button.
      2. Enter the medication information, and click the "Add" button.
      • Note that the newly added medication is listed as a scenario medication, not a prescribed medication.
    • Exclude any medications if needed.
      • Select the Exclude checkbox for each medication that you wish to exclude from the MeSA Scenario.
    • Note that any scenario medication added in this step will not added as a prescribed medication. The scenario medications are just added to the list of medications for the theoretical scenario.
    • Also note that excluding prescribed medications from the MeSA Scenario will not remove or delete them from the patient/resident's record.
  5. Complete step four. Click the step "5" tab to process the MeSA Scenario. Remember that it can take up to 20 seconds to process a MeSA Scenario.
    • Add a new scenario observation if needed.
      1. Type the new observation into the text field, and click the "Add" button to add it to the list.
      • Note that the newly added observation is listed as a manual entry, not from the patient/resident record.
    • Exclude any observations if needed.
      • Select the Exclude checkbox for each observation that you wish to exclude from the MeSA Scenario.
    • Note that any scenario observation added in this step will not added to the patient/resident's record. The scenario observations are just added to the list of observations for the theoretical scenario.
    • Also note that excluding observations from the MeSA Scenario will not remove or delete them from the patient/resident's record.
  6. Once the report is complete, step five shows the results of the report.

Understanding the MeSA Scenario

  • The blue box indicates whether the report was generated from live patient data or if the report is a theoretical scenario.
  • The red boxes indicate the fall risk and number of observed behaviors.
  • The table shows the correlation between the patient/resident's medications and observed behaviors.
    • If any theoretical inputs were added in steps three and four, they will appear in blue on the table.
    • Hover over an icon to understand what it means, or click on the "Legend" link in the bottom right corner.
    • When medications don't match with any observed behaviors, they are listed at the bottom of the table.
    • Click on "Expand All Meds" to get simple details about the awareness factors per medication.
      • Click on "More Detail" to get expanded information about the awareness factors.
  • Remember that the Legend can be accessed by clicking on the "Legend" link.

Share a MeSA Scenario

  1. Click the "Share" link.
  2. Select the external users who will receive the MeSA Scenario.
  3. Click the "Save Report and Send" button to save and share the scenario.
